RPC

RPC is the first major commercial project in the evolution of image-based rendering technology. Rather than rely upon complex geometry to represent objects in 3D, RPC technology utilizes image data, and is capable of reflecting an incredible richness of detail. The use of continuously updated and synthesized image data creates a stunningly effective 3D illusion. 

RPC technology employs a remarkably simple user interface to make the placement of RPC content as simple as drag and drop. In addition to being very easy to use, the key advantages of image-based rendering are extremely high image quality and detail with significantly improved rendering times versus traditional geometry-based solutions. For these and other reasons, RPC technology was adopted as the preferred image-object solution. 

There are over 40 collections of people, trees and automobiles ready for you to use. The newest libraries also incorporate natural motion cycles, allowing you to place walking people and even fountains into your work, all with just a few quick clicks of your mouse. 

How it Works - bring your scenes to life by bringing life to your scenes!

A simple icon is used to orient your RPC content within the geometry of your scene. At render time the RPC Plug-in calculates the viewing angle of the RPC object relative to the virtual camera. The appropriate corresponding images are then synthesized, creating the illusion that a complete 3D object exists in the scene. The 2D & 2.5D RPC content libraries allow the same click and place simplicity of the 3D content libraries but are not viewable from 360 degrees. The Populous™ 3D & 3.5D libraries, however, are viewable from anywhere on the Z-axis at every point in their motion cycles, which makes them completely camera independent. The use of image data provides a significant advantage over polygonal geometry in rendering time. This frees you to realize your vision to its fullest, placing as many people, trees, shrubs, or other RPC objects into their scenes as needed to bring your scenes to life by bringing life to your scenes.

RPC technology has been integrated seamlessly with ARC+ Render Pro 9, meaning that no additional software is required to take full advantage of the power of RPC. ARC+ Render Pro 9 users now have native access to RPC content. Simply install the latest version and you are equipped to drop any RPC content into your scene.
